Part of the role of the Restorative Justice APPG is to commission reports and carry out inquiries into the state of Restorative Justice in the UK.

Inquiry into Restorative Practices in 2021/2022

The APPG’s inquiry into Restorative Practices garnered 57 responses from a broad mix of Service Providers, Practitioners, National Organisation and Academics. The evidence we received was heavily weighted towards the Criminal Justice workstream.

The below report provides an overview of responses, weighted based on the volume of evidence provided to the inquiry.

It is not a full account of all the evidence given to the inquiry, but a summary of key points that provides an evidence base for 10 key recommendations:

1. Registration of commissioned services
2. Sufficient funding
3. Standardise the sharing of information
4. Improving quality through effective monitoring and evaluation
5. Publication of a new Action Plan
6. Ringfenced funding for Restorative Justice practices
7. Automatic rights for victims through the Victim’s Law
8. End to blanket bans
9. More and better communications
10. Government minister with specific responsibility for Restorative Justice
